Topic Description:

Cyclone Fani has left a trail of destruction across coastal Odisha . But the manner in which this natural disaster was managed has emerged as an example of how timely alerts of changing weather situation , preparedness of authorities and public participation can drastically reduce loss of life which in this case is 38 as of last count .

This is a dramatic transformation from the situation two decades ago when thousands of lives were lost during a super cyclone in 1999. This transformation has been appreciated globally and now the entire focus is on relief, rehabilitation and rebuilding infrastructure which has been destroyed due to the cyclone .

So how did various agencies from both state and centre carry out this task of minimising the loss of life in cyclone Fani and what more can be done in this aspect .
